Job Description
Oversee the environmental and financial performance of Total Waste and Resource Management Programs at client locations. Responsibilities focus on properly managing all hazardous and non-hazardous solid wastes at client locations and in-plant industrial services, with an emphasis on creating cost savings through elimination, reduction, and recycling of waste.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure that all duties are performed following regulatory standards and company policies governing the proper management of solid and hazardous waste.
- Identify and characterize wastes.
- Prepare containers for proper TDG shipment where applicable.
- Prepare and sign shipping paperwork, including manifests and bills of ladings for all waste shipments.
- Coordinate scheduling and pickup of waste within Veolia and with third-party providers.
- Coordinate the procurement of necessary waste containers.
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and supervisors regarding changes or discrepancies in contract and/or subcontract requirements.
- Ensure that contract and/or subcontract requirements are being met and/or exceeded.
- Analyze financial performance of contracts and provide written reports.
- Coordinate Client in-plant waste management systems.
- Sample and prepare waste material samples for analysis.
- Track manifests, bills of lading, and certificates of destruction; maintain files and ensure documents are returned within 35 days.
- Monitor activities, track waste and cost data, and prepare comprehensive reports, including providing data to the customer tracking database as required by the client.
- Provide/analyze baseline reconciliation as required per contract, or more often if needed to manage discrepancies.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of the annual budget and/or quarterly review meetings.
- Perform and document waste accumulation area inspections.
- Develop and implement plans and projects focusing on reducing, reusing, and recycling waste generated by manufacturing, pollution control, and maintenance operations.
- Analyze costs/benefits of pollution prevention programs.
- General knowledge of ISO Standards, Standard Operating Procedures, and Quality Management Systems.
- Continually evaluate markets and third-party recyclers to ensure the customer receives the greatest value for commodity by-products.
- Support management systems and deliverables focusing on federal and local regulatory compliance standards as well as the plant’s Environmental Management policies and procedures dealing with proper waste management and pollution prevention.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Main Requirements
- College/University degree preferred—in Environmental and/or Chemistry;
- 5-10 years of work experience in a related field, such as environmental services;
- Knowledge of Ministry Of Environment Regulations;
- Knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act;
- Experience in completing waste characterization, including sampling, is an asset;
- Strong communication skills;
- Autonomy and initiative;
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task;
- Experience with spreadsheets (MS and Google).
- Professional attitude oriented towards customer satisfaction;
- Dynamic interpersonal skills;
- Ability to persuade and communicate ideas;
- G Driver’s license with clean abstract;
- Frequent travel to client and/or vendor sites—up to 50%.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs;
- Able to sit periodically and for extended periods, climb ladders/stairs, reach below knees and above shoulders, kneel;
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and ability to reach forward and grasp.
Work Environment
Permanent position, offered on a full-time basis.
