Job summary

The Manitoba government invites applications for Resource Management Technician (RS2) positions across The Pas, Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids. You will support district conservation programs, handle human-wildlife conflicts, and help maintain equipment and facilities.

Duties:

Under the supervision and guidance of the District Conservation Officers (CO’s), the employee aids with the delivery of the departments multi-discipline resource management programs, both in field and administratively. The incumbent deals with human-wildlife conflicts and maintains the district infrastructure, equipment, and grounds. This position will also accompany the district CO on various types of patrols throughout the season (ie: boat, snowmobile, at, etc.) and provides guidance on backcountry areas of the district.

Qualifications:

Essential

• Experienced and capable of the operation and maintenance of district equipment (ATV, small engines, boats and motors, trailers), as well as infrastructure maintenance and repair.
• Remote or backcountry travel experience.
• Knowledge and experience with safe firearm handling.
• Ability to start tasks on own initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge and experience operating larger patrol boats and commercial fishing equipment. Requires a valid boating license.
• Ability to make safe and effective decisions under stressful situations.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Experience in mechanical, carpentry, building maintenance and minor repair of equipment using power and hand tools.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of problem wildlife programs and procedures.

Desired

• Experience with administrative record keeping.
• The ability to speak Cree.

Conditions of Employment

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence
• Must not have been convicted of a natural resource based infraction and must remain in good standing throughout employment in this position. NOTE: Candidates with a previous infraction may be considered for employment, subject to review and approval by the Chief Conservation Officer.
• Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and be on call all hours of the day
• Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, walking on uneven terrain and working in adverse weather conditions
• Must possess and maintain a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. NOTE: Having a criminal record does not automatically prevent you from being considered for this position. Criminal records will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the duties and responsibilities of the position.
