The Resource Consultant reports to the Clinical Manager and supports the inclusion of children with developmental, social, emotional, and behavioral needs into community child care settings through training, support, coordination, and service delivery, including observation, information sharing, and program planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage an assigned caseload of children and child care centers, providing services such as:
  2. Assist parents with programs at home, linking to community resources as needed.
  3. Advocate for parents and children.
  4. Conduct initial observations/assessments using standardized tools (e.g., ASQ).
  5. Refer to other services as necessary.
  6. Develop goals through Individual Service Plans based on assessments and input.
  7. Monitor child progress at home and in care settings.
  8. Support staff in recognizing challenges and strengths, and in developing or modifying programs.
  9. Research and provide resource materials tailored to needs.
  10. Identify and help obtain specialized equipment.
  11. Assess physical environments for necessary adaptations.
  12. Build and maintain community partnerships for collaboration.
  13. Assist and support staff as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  14. Provide training, guidance, and modeling to staff.
  15. Collaborate with parents and staff to set goals and develop strategies.
  16. Implement and monitor strategies and programs.
  17. Maintain open communication among all parties.
  18. Review and revise programs regularly as per Ministry standards.
  19. Develop and update health care plans with parents and medical professionals.
  20. Participate in case conferences, IPRCs, and provide case management when needed.
  21. Support discharge planning and transitions for children and families.
  22. Facilitate group education and professional development for educators.
  23. Deliver life and social skills education in various settings.
  24. Ensure service plans are complete and current.
  25. Maintain child files and databases confidentially.
  26. Participate in staff meetings, community networks, and public education.
  27. Contribute to program evaluation and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators) or Child and Youth Worker Diploma.
  • Experience working with families and children with special needs, including developmental disabilities.
  • Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Effective communication skills in both official languages is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.
