Resort Manager/Director of Operations

Reports to: General Manager

We are seeking a passionate Resort Manager to oversee the operations of our lifestyle luxury resort. Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is a 400+ room Autograph Collection by Marriott, located 60 minutes west of Calgary International Airport. This role requires a dynamic leader committed to delivering unparalleled guest experiences, managing profitability and fostering a culture of excellence across the resort. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, operational expertise, and a strong commitment to brand values. As Resort Manager, you will lead the Rooms, Engineering, and Food & Beverage teams to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests and employees.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years as a key operational department head within lifestyle luxury or luxury resorts
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret financial data, create budgets and manage financial performance to meet targets
  • Demonstrated success in managing operations to achieve efficiency and profitability
  • Skilled in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong communicator who is able to convey messages to a diverse audience
  • A degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred

Key Focuses

Managing Profitability and Departmental Budgets

  • Keeps operations team focused on the critical components of operations to drive guest experience and desired financial results
  • Reviews financial reports and statements to determine how Operations is performing against budget
  • Works with direct reports to determine areas of concern and establishing ways to improve the departments’ financial performance
  • Strives to maintain profitability without compromising guest/employee satisfaction
  • Identifies and analyzes operational challenges and facilitates the development of solutions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Makes and executes key decisions to keep property moving forward towards achievement of goals

Managing & Leading Property Operations

  • Demonstrate unwavering tenacity and commitment to achieving goals, fostering alignment, and elevating performance across all departments
  • Communicates a clear and consistent message regarding operational goals to produce desired results on a continuous basis
  • Demonstrate active listening, empathy, and collaboration to build effective relationships with guests, staff, and stakeholders
  • Show social awareness and cultural sensitivity to provide personalized and respectful guest services
  • Regularly engage with guests and staff to understand their needs and concerns
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address challenges and make informed decisions. Analyze data and trends for opportunities and innovation, adapting strategies to changing circumstances and market conditions
  • Walks buildings on a regular basis speaking with employees & guests to understand business needs and assess operational opportunities
  • Ensures employees are treated fairly and equitably

Leadership & Coaching

  • Observes service behaviors of employees and providing feedback to individuals and/or managers
  • Uphold high standards for performance, holding team members accountable
  • Hires operations management team members who demonstrate strong functional expertise, creativity and entrepreneurial leadership to meet the business needs of the operation
  • Stays knowledgeable of leadership talent at property
  • Utilizes an “open door” policy and reviewing employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns
  • Fosters employee commitment to providing excellent service, participating in daily stand-up meetings and models desired service behaviors in all interactions with guests and employees
