Job description

About Forager Hill Consulting

Forager Hill Consulting collaborates with Indigenous governments to champion the strong vision of Indigenous leaders and bring their resilience goals to life. Since 2020, we've been working alongside First Nations to implement effective strategies for climate adaptation, disaster resilience, and language and cultural revitalization. Our services include climate adaptation planning, emergency management planning, cultural and linguistic revitalization, and grant writing. We take a hands-on approach to supporting community planning, funding strategies, and project management, ensuring that Indigenous communities have the resources and expertise they need to build a stronger future on their own terms.

Position Summary

The Resilience Strategy Lead will be a key leader in our growing team, directly overseeing and delivering high-impact projects for Indigenous governments. This individual will bring subject-matter expertise in one or more of our core service areas—climate change, emergency management, environmental science, cultural revitalization, or project management—while also supporting the operational coordination of our consulting work.

This is a remote, part-time position (with the potential to grow to full-time) that requires occasional travel to Indigenous communities. The ideal candidate will be Indigenous or have significant experience working with Indigenous governments and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and manage client projects in one or more of our service areas, ensuring alignment with community needs and priorities.
  • Facilitate strategic planning, engagement sessions, workshops, and training with Indigenous governments.
  • Develop reports, funding applications, climate adaptation plans, emergency management plans, or other key deliverables based on project needs.
  • Build relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and knowledge holders to support effective project delivery.

Project Coordination & Tracking

  • Develop and maintain project progress reports for clients, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget.
  • Track project hours, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure alignment between client expectations, team capacity, and project execution.

Administrative & Financial Operations

  • Support financial administration, including invoicing, payroll coordination, and expense tracking.
  • Assist with contract management, timesheet tracking, and financial reporting.

Team Support & Internal Systems

  • Support onboarding and mentorship of new team members.
  • Help improve internal workflows, tools, and policies to enhance operational efficiency.
Education & Experience
  • A degree in Environmental Studies, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Community Planning, Climate Science, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: climate adaptation, emergency management, environmental science, cultural revitalization, or project management.
  • Experience working directly with Indigenous governments, communities, or organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Background in community planning, environmental project work, report writing, or grant writing is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience facilitating engagement sessions, workshops, or planning meetings.
Technical & Administrative Skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.).
  • Experience managing budgets, financial tracking, and invoicing.
  • Comfortable with HR functions, such as performance management and staff check-ins.
Core Competencies
  • Strong leadership and project management skills – ability to take ownership of client projects and drive them to completion.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills – ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous governments, knowledge holders, and funders.
  • Organized and detail-oriented – ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining smooth operations.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving – ability to navigate challenges and develop creative solutions in dynamic project environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with occasional travel to Indigenous communities in rural and remote areas.
Compensation
  • $35-$45 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
Location
