Job description

GFL Environmental is looking for a Residential Swing Driver to join our team in Grande Prairie.

As a Residential Swing Driver, you will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. An ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanor and be physically capable of completing job duties in a positive, team-oriented, and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a residential/recycling collection truck, utilizing side-load and/or rear-load methods.
  • Load solid waste, yard waste, and/or recyclables into the waste collection vehicle.
  • Compact trash efficiently using prescribed techniques.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and complete required documentation.
  • Communicate vehicle mechanical issues promptly to supervisors and mechanics.
  • Maintain route quality standards and follow safety regulations.
  • Identify and tag prohibited waste items, removing them from waste carts.
  • Manage assigned Helper(s) if applicable.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Class 3 Driver's License required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
  • Ability to meet safety criteria for sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely drive a truck and operate equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance.
  • Proficient in maneuvering trucks in tight spaces using mirrors.
  • Ability to recognize and handle unacceptable waste materials.
  • Effective communication with customers and team members.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand maps and documents.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds using proper techniques.
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
