The Route Manager will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the Company’s transportation requirements and patterns. They will review and process day-to-day operations, evaluate and recommend equipment needs, and plan and schedule appropriate service lines to maintain a cost-effective balance between customer service and cost of service. They will ensure compliance with all government-related programs specific to mode and direction of related haulage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train drivers, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and performance expectations.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring the annual equipment budget, staying within approved limits.
- Act as the liaison between dispatch and drivers to ensure efficient communication of daily schedules, equipment needs, and service requirements.
- Conduct "sit-in" driver training to evaluate driving habits, including fuel efficiency and safety.
- Regularly perform driver evaluations and reviews.
- Maintain strong, courteous, and prompt communication with customers to resolve any service issues.
- Track and document service or driver-related issues, including any necessary disciplinary action.
- Approve driver vacation requests and manage scheduling.
- Maintain inventory of necessary supplies, including sourcing vendors and managing supply chains.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper upkeep of vehicles, including safety devices, lighting, and other essential equipment.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, reporting any safety issues to management immediately.
- Ensure drivers receive necessary training in line with company policies and industry standards.
- Conduct investigations into accidents involving company vehicles.
- Resolve internal service issues in a timely, cost-effective manner, reporting customer service concerns and solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience, preferably with commercial or front-end vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Ability to conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Experience in accident investigations.
- Operations/transportation experience, preferably in waste management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, and database management).
- Flexibility to work varied hours, with some travel as needed.
