Qualifications

The Mortgage Underwriter Role

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for negotiating, recommending, declining, and, in some cases, approving mortgage applications within established guidelines. This involves securing real estate, exercising sound judgment, and ensuring efficiency without compromising service or profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review mortgage applications daily, negotiate terms, decline or recommend approvals, and approve applications as appropriate. Ensure timely closing by following up on conditions and documents, maintaining compliance with guidelines. (50%)
  • Follow up with brokers on mortgage commitments to ensure efficient file closing. (20%)
  • Provide excellent customer service to mortgage brokers, clients, and colleagues, responding to inquiries and maintaining broker relationships. (20%)
  • Offer underwriting expertise, stay updated on company policies, procedures, and products. (10%)
