The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for:

  • Negotiating, recommending, declining, and, in some cases, approving mortgage applications within established guidelines, secured by real estate. This must be done efficiently, exercising sound judgment without compromising service and profitability. (50%)
  • Following up with brokers on mortgage commitments to ensure timely closing of files. (20%)
  • Providing high-level customer service to mortgage brokers, clients, and colleagues, maintaining relationships and responding to inquiries. (20%)
  • Offering underwriting expertise and maintaining knowledge of company policies, procedures, and products. (10%)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Post-secondary degree in a financial field preferred
  • Knowledge of mortgage fraud risks and concerns about misrepresentation
