Job summary

GFL Environmental is looking for a Class 3 Residential Driver to join our Calgary, AB team. You will operate heavy collection equipment, perform daily safety inspections, and help keep your community running cleanly and smoothly.

Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (3Q or above) with clean abstract and CVOR.
  • Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (or completion of accredited truck driving school).
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
  • Ability to meet safety-sensitive standards and maintain reliable attendance.
  • Willingness to start early and support overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Safe Fleet Operation: Safely operate an Automated Side-Load (ASL) collection truck on residential routes.
  • Safety Inspections: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs.
  • Curbside Collection: Collect residential waste and recycling per route schedules.
  • System Operations: Use hydraulic and compaction systems correctly to protect equipment.
  • Reporting & Maintenance: Report mechanical issues and route hazards to management.
  • Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow traffic laws and PPE requirements.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with Helpers and Supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (3Q or above) with a clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR.
  • Driving Experience: Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (or completion of an accredited truck driving school program).
  • Equipment Operation: Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy commercial collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
  • Safety Commitment: Ability to successfully satisfy all company standards for safety-sensitive operational roles.
  • Reliability: Strong attendance record and flexibility to support early morning start schedules and operational overtime when needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Safe Fleet Operation: Safely operate an Automated Side-Load (ASL) collection truck along assigned residential routes.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs and paperwork.
  • Curbside Collection: Collect residential waste and recycling materials in strict accordance with route schedules and corporate safety protocols.
  • System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.
  • Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.
  • Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
