Residential Construction Finisher / Working Lead

Residential New Home Construction | Renovations | Finishing | Landscaping

Our client is seeking a dependable, hands-on Residential Construction Finisher / Working Lead to support new home construction, general renovation projects and seasonal exterior work.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded residential construction professional who enjoys working on the tools, takes pride in quality workmanship and can handle a variety of finishing and repair tasks.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Construction Manager, spending approximately 8090% of their time performing hands-on construction work, while occasionally providing direction to one or two helpers.

This is not a senior construction management or primarily supervisory position. We're looking for someone who is comfortable doing the work, solving problems and keeping projects moving.

Key Responsibilities
New Home Construction & Finishing
  • Perform finishing work on new residential construction projects, including final touch-ups, repairs and deficiency corrections.
  • Complete finish carpentry tasks such as installing and adjusting trim, baseboards, casing, doors and hardware.
  • Carry out drywall patching, caulking, painting touch-ups and other general finishing tasks.
  • Inspect completed work, identify deficiencies and ensure homes are finished to quality standards.
  • Prepare homes for final walkthroughs, inspections and possession.
General Renovations & Repairs
  • Perform a variety of residential renovation, maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assist with interior and exterior renovation projects, including basic carpentry, repairs, installations and finishing.
  • Troubleshoot issues and determine practical solutions.
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks efficiently and professionally.
Landscaping & Grading
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping and exterior finishing work, particularly during the spring.
  • Support rough and final grading, soil preparation, levelling and drainage-related work.
  • Assist with sod installation, landscaping preparation and general exterior site improvements.
  • Recognize grading, drainage and finishing deficiencies and communicate concerns to the Construction Manager.
Field Leadership & Site Support
  • Work alongside the Construction Manager on active residential projects.
  • Provide day-to-day direction to one or two helpers when required.
  • Take responsibility for assigned work and occasionally oversee a site when the Construction Manager is elsewhere.
  • Coordinate tools, materials and immediate work requirements.
  • Maintain safe, clean and organized work areas.
  • Communicate progress, deficiencies and challenges to the Construction Manager.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 34 years of hands-on residential construction experience, ideally involving new home finishing and general renovations.
  • Direct experience with new home production finishing, deficiencies and final touch-ups is strongly preferred.
  • Well-rounded carpentry and renovation skills, including trim, doors, hardware, drywall repairs, caulking and general finishing.
  • Experience or practical familiarity with residential landscaping, grading and exterior site preparation.
  • Comfortable working independently and performing a variety of construction tasks.
  • Ability to read basic construction drawings, take accurate measurements and follow specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize when additional direction is needed.
  • Previous experience directing one or two helpers is an asset, but extensive supervisory experience is not required.
  • Reliable, organized and willing to work hands-on throughout the day.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel between residential job sites.

  • New Home Warranty or Deficiency Technician
  • Residential Renovation Technician
  • Finish Carpenter with broader residential construction experience

If you enjoy variety, take pride in completing projects properly and want a hands-on role where your skills are valued, we'd welcome your application.
