Participate in assessing, setting goals for, and evaluating the progress of persons served.
- Teach persons served to relate in a socially appropriate manner through daily routines and activities.
- Monitor persons served to ensure their safety and well-being; utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety, and security.
- Provide behavior management counseling on a one-to-one and/or group basis, including giving feedback on client behavior, teaching coping techniques, and offering guidance and support.
- Offer emotional support and crisis intervention, which may include nonviolent physical interventions.
- Ensure communication and liaison between the program, school, family, and community.
- Meet the physical needs of persons served by assisting with basic personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
- Administer medications according to established guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activity records related to persons served.
- Perform household duties like meal preparation and cleaning.
- Accompany persons served to appointments and community outings.
- Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee as required.
- Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting persons served or on Taproot business.
- Advocate effectively for persons served.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as needed.
- Prior to employment, applicants must provide a current (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check; these may take up to 6 weeks to obtain, so plan accordingly.
Ideal Candidate Qualities:
- Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma, or a related field in humanities, social work, or similar; other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of two years recent related experience in child and youth care, emergency shelter, or relevant fields.
- Experience with trauma-informed practices.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract, reliable and safe vehicle with appropriate insurance.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period).
- Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate (NVCI), MANDT, or Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period).
- Experience in implementing behavioral interventions and trauma-informed practices.
- Successful candidates will undergo MCFD screening prior to employment.
