Job Responsibilities/Duties
  • Working in group homes with individuals with developmental disabilities such as Spinal Cord Injury, Dementia, and Down Syndrome.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, such as feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Perform delegated tasks for duties such as catheter care, suppositories, non-sterile dressings, and mobilization routines for complex care clients.
  • Administer medication to clients and provide medication reminders, in accordance with established policy.
  • Plans, prepares, and serves meals and shops for groceries.
  • Observes clients and their environments and reports unsafe conditions and behavioral and physical changes.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as communication books and progress notes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Wage: Starting at $27.92

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 completion.
  • Health Care Aide/Residential Care Aide certificate.
  • Food Safe Certificate.
  • Registration with BC Care Aide Association.
  • Class 4 BC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle (Preferred) (Class 4 Driver’s license is an asset).
  • Up to date immunization record including a current TB test within 1 year.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued in the past 90 days.
  • Current Standard First Aid & Level C CPR.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team, with excellent organizational skills to manage your schedule.
  • Compassionate, respectful, and sincere manner, with ability to deal with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner. Effective problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • This is a physically demanding position and requires hand, arm, and shoulder dexterity, sensory ability, lifting to a maximum of approximately fifty-five (55) pounds, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and frequent movement.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Home Management skills.
  • Flexible working hours – able to work overnight, evening, and weekends.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Experience with quadriplegics and behavioral conditions such as Dementia & Autism would be an asset.
