Under the direction of the Director of Care or the Executive Director, the Resident Care Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating quality resident care in accordance with the Mission, Values, and Pledge, as well as standards of practice, regulations, and guidelines.

The Resident Care Manager ensures the optimal delivery of care through effective human resource management, utilization of the nursing process, and functioning as an integral member of the management team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure resident satisfaction and promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  2. Assist nursing staff in developing, implementing, and reviewing initial and ongoing assessments and care plans.
  3. Assist with recruiting, hiring, and terminating nursing staff in consultation with the Director of Care.
  4. Assign, supervise, and discipline nursing staff.
  5. Schedule and replace staff for all departments in the absence of the designated department head.
  6. Manage care issues related to residents, families, and advocates.
  7. Promote and ensure an interdisciplinary approach to resident care.
  8. Act as a role model for nursing staff by demonstrating clinical expertise and comprehensive knowledge in resident care delivery.
  9. Provide ongoing staff development and education to enhance care and service quality.
  10. Possess knowledge and experience with MDS and Care Management systems.
  11. Manage overall supervision of the building in the absence of senior management.
  12. Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
  13. Uphold and promote organizational values and philosophy, especially regarding ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation, or long-term care at a supervisory or management level.
  • Registered nurse with a current unrestricted license or eligibility for registration with CRNM, CRPNM, BN preferred.
  • Experience managing in a multi-unionized environment.
  • Experience with continuous quality improvement, risk management processes, and person-centered care philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current Alberta health legislation and standards, workplace safety and health, and experience with MDS and Care Management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices related to long-term care.
