Job Description

The Resident Care Assistant is an unregulated healthcare provider responsible for closely observing patients whose behaviors pose a risk to their safety or the safety of others. They engage in restorative care, assist with activities of daily living, and work under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals. Patients may be elderly with dementia or young with traumatic injuries, including those who have experienced motor vehicle collisions, assaults, falls, or self-harm.

Summary of Duties
  1. Observe assigned patients to support a safe and caring environment.
  2. Ensure safety during violent outbursts or elopement risks.
  3. Provide 1:1 supervision for residents with conditions like Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Schizophrenia.
  4. Engage residents in meaningful activities and document observations accurately.
  5. Notify healthcare professionals immediately of any danger or significant behavior change.
  6. Interact with patients to provide comfort and cognitive stimulation.
  7. Maintain a professional appearance and assist with activities of daily living under supervision.
  8. Communicate observations and complete required documentation.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned, such as high-touch cleaning or filling masks.
Qualifications & Skills
  1. Minimum Grade 11 or equivalent education recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
  2. One year of recent experience in patient care or a related field, or a PSW certificate, or completion of at least one year of an accredited Nursing program.
  3. Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  4. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
  5. Proof of immunizations and TB or chest x-ray as required.
  6. Willing to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
