What You'll Do:

  • Assist with daily personal and palliative care.
  • Plan activities that promote independence and community connections.
  • Prepare healthy meals and manage household chores.
  • Administer medication and support healthcare needs.
  • Help residents advocate for themselves and connect with social workers, family, and community resources.
  • Teach life skills like budgeting, relationship-building, and healthy choices.
  • Provide transportation to medical appointments, family visits, and recreational outings.
  • Manage household budgets and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Respond to emergencies and ensure a safe environment for all.

What You Bring:

  • Community and School Support Worker, Resident Care Aide, or Home Support Worker Certificate.
  • One (1) year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental and diverse abilities.
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Other Musts:

  • Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Drivers License or ability to obtain within probation (reimbursement available). Safe driving record.
  • Reliable vehicle and safe driving record.
  • TB test (clear of tuberculosis).
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.
  • Unionized position with a 1.85% union dues deduction.
  • Physical ability to provide personal care and recreational activities, including supporting individuals in wheelchairs and with walkers, lifting, transferring, and using health equipment safely.
  • Required training provided free of charge: First Aid, Mandt, SafeTalk, Medication Management, Privacy and Information Sharing, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling, Anti-Bullying and Harassment. Existing certification is an asset.

Program: Desmond House

Location: Kamloops, BC

Status: Full-Time

Hours of Work: 37.4 hours per week on average

Schedule: 4 days on, 2 days off, between 8 am-4 pm

Reports To: Program Coordinator, Desmond House

Compensation: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)
