Job summary

IDM Youth Services is seeking a Residence Child and Youth Worker to support the growth and development of youth in Westshore/Sooke, BC. You will plan outings, provide compassionate care, and participate in care planning with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires empathy, teamwork, and strong communication. Training opportunities and a unionized work environment are available, with agency-set shift schedules.

Qualifications

• Diploma in a related human/social service field and two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Must be 19 years or older.
• Minimum Class 7N BC Driver's License.
• Must obtain and maintain screening through the MCFD and the Ministry of Justice.
• Police clearances from any country lived in outside of Canada for 6+ months since turning 18.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead outings and activities for youth.
• Provide care and support to at-risk children and youth.
• Collaborate with care plans and teams to ensure consistent support.
• Maintain documentation and assist with scheduling and transitions.

Compensation, hours, and location:

The Residence Child and Youth Worker is Grid 11, Compensation starts at 29.22 and requires union membership.

Shifts are either 7:30am-3:30pm or 3:30pm-11:30pm, and positions are set by the agency at locations in the Westshore and Sooke.

Preference Given to those who have:

• Experience working with at-risk youth and/or people who have a mental health diagnosis.
• Understanding of Trauma Informed Care, and experience providing trauma informed counselling (through behavior management, attachment based, relational, or other appropriate modalities).
• Experience administering and documenting daily medications.
• Experience working with suicide prevention and self-harm behaviour.
• Education in a related field (education, psychology, child and youth care, counselling, health care).

Qualification Requirements:

• Diploma in a related human/social service field and Two years recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must be 19 years or older.
• The minimum of a Class 7N BC Driver's License
• Must obtain and maintain screening through the MCFD and the Ministry of Justice.

Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must complete screening through the Ministry of Justice and a Ministry Check. This requires applicants to provide police clearances from any country lived in outside of Canada for 6 or more month since turning 18. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.
