General Purpose
Reporting to the Associate Director, Residence Life, the Residence Area Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for managing several residences that house students, fostering an environment that promotes academic and personal growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
The RAC will assist in hiring and training professional staff and will directly supervise 2-3 Residence Life Managers or 6-7 Residence Life Managers-in-Training. The RAC oversees all aspects of student life within their assigned area, including counselling, managing student behaviour, recruitment, training, and supervision of staff, and liaising with resources to maintain quality student life. Specific responsibilities include: overseeing program delivery, managing behavioural concerns, meeting with students of concern and developing support plans, and managing budgets related to staff hospitality, programming, and projects. Candidates should have experience in student development theory, community building, programming, staff management, behaviour management, staff training, budget planning, and restorative practices.
The RAC will oversee a major portfolio within Student Housing Services, such as hiring, training, and performance management, and will participate in various committees internally and externally.
Requirements
A university degree (master’s preferred), four years of management experience in a residence environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include strong administrative skills, understanding of post-secondary student life, effective communication skills, residence living experience, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, and knowledge of student development theory. Candidates must be able to interact effectively with all university community levels. Management experience in residence life is preferred. The position requires living on campus and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
