About the team

Established in 2012, the Central Media Technology Institute (CMTI) is Huawei's center for media technology innovation and engineering, enhancing the technical competitiveness of media products. Sitting within CMTI, the Graphics Technology Lab focuses on research and breakthroughs in photography, audio, video, computer graphics, XR, and codec standards to maintain the company's leadership in media technology. Our R&D team comprises skilled CG algorithm experts, researchers, software architects, and standards specialists dedicated to building core capabilities for an improved graphics experience.

About the Job
  • Develop and implement visual effects shaders, and procedural textures/geometry from scratch.
  • Create graphics demos and technology prototypes to validate new algorithmic techniques.
  • Optimize mobile graphics pipelines and provide solutions to minimize power consumption and maximize performance.
  • Build custom tools to streamline and automate the shading creation process.
About the ideal candidate
  • Master or PhD in Computer Science.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in high‑end shading graphics.
  • Creativity and comfort in exploring and inventing novel algorithms.
  • Ability to bridge technical execution and artistic quality, with a keen eye for detail and passion for visual aesthetics (akin to a technical artist).
  • Demonstrated ability to create sophisticated procedural graphics, similar to high‑quality ShaderToy demos. A proven portfolio in the ShaderToy community is highly desirable.
  • Strong mathematical background in: Linear algebra, Geometry processing, Geometric analysis, Differential geometry, Trigonometry, Numerical optimization, Probability, Signal processing, Fourier transforms, Sampling theory, Monte Carlo methods.
  • Proficiency in algorithm design, including procedural generation, spatial data structures, acceleration and optimization techniques, mathematical simplification.
  • Experience with graphics APIs: OpenGL, Vulkan; WebGPU is a plus.
  • Programming languages: GLSL, GLES, C++, Python; SLANG is a plus.
  • Research contributions in conferences and journals such as SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, or JCGT are highly valued.
  • A public portfolio on platforms like ShaderToy, GitHub, or WebGL demos is relevant but not mandatory.

total target annual compensation (based on 2,080 hours per year) ranges from $106,000 to $156,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
