Here's the Scoop - Summary

The Research Veterinary Technician is responsible for supporting delivery of the veterinary engagement and research outreach program with the Senior Veterinarian. The Research Veterinary Technician will also support all research activities that could include sampling, preparing and shipping samples to various testing laboratories, assisting research team with experimental research diets including dry mixing, extrusion, and coating.

The Research Technician is based out of our Acheson Kitchen and will report to the Senior Veterinarian. Travel will be required nationally, internationally, and locally. Travel could take up to 50% of the incumbent’s work time.

What a typical day looks like?

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for building out and implementing a veterinary technician outreach education program about nutrition and Champion Petfoods food philosophy to veterinary technicians through college classroom presentations and separate continuing education events.
  • Responsible to material preparation, including documents and presentations to support veterinary engagement program
  • Internal support for animal health education
  • The Research Technician will support the Senior Veterinarian at Veterinary continuing education conferences in an exhibitor booth answering veterinarian and animal health technician questions
  • Support research projects by:
    • Executing test runs to manufacture research product where physical lifting and mobility will be required.
    • Facilitating logistics of research production.
  • Willing to travel for on-site for product test runs in Canada and USA.
  • Willingness to learn on the job about all facets of making pet food
  • Keep detailed records of extrusion parameters, kibble specifications, and nutrient analyses of research product.
  • Maintain inventory and sample retention of research product and ingredients.

What we are looking for?

  • 4 years experience in veterinary field
  • Graduation from an accredited registered animal health technician program
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Ability to maintain accurate records relating to projects as they are planned performed and completed, project management training an asset.
  • Discrete in handling confidential, proprietary, or sensitive information.
  • Able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the company.
  • Capable of self-management, and multiple projects and tasks management.
  • Proficient in software applications such as PowerPoint, Excel etc
  • Ability to lift 25 kg
