Job description

Calian is actively seeking an Environmental Biologist (Junior or Intermediate) to support environmental research and fieldwork activities at the Royal Military College (RMC) in Kingston, Ontario.

Position Overview

We are seeking to hire a Environmental Biologist (Junior or Intermediate) to join the Environmental Sciences Group (ESG), a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering practical, science-based solutions to environmental challenges. This role supports projects related to contaminated site assessments, environmental monitoring, remediation, and ecological risk evaluations. The successful candidate will contribute to both field and office-based tasks, including site visits to remote locations across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and conducting environmental projects such as site assessments, well installations, and collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples
  • Supporting environmental management activities for Species at Risk and invasive alien species
  • Conducting fieldwork in remote settings, including extended travel assignments of 1 to 2 weeks within Canada
  • Adhering to health and safety protocols during field and office tasks
  • Managing and analyzing environmental data, and authoring high-quality technical reports and presentation materials
  • Attending meetings with sponsors and stakeholders virtually or in-person
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, chemistry, geology, toxicology, engineering, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant work experience in areas such as environmental monitoring, terrestrial or aquatic ecology, ecotoxicology, or contaminated site investigations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with databases and other MS Office applications is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience writing technical reports

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel within Canada and perform fieldwork in remote environments
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance at the Reliability level
  • French language skills (written and/or spoken) are considered an asset
