Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of the UK's largest healthcare systems, employs approximately 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide a wide range of services including acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed-term position for 24 months.

Applicants must hold a current, active NMC UK registration. Please note that the salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.

The Clinical Research Facility operates from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, with typical hours from 08:30 to 16:30. Flexibility is required to meet research needs, including working unsocial hours and weekends as necessary. Travel between NHS GGC sites is essential.

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility includes facilities at QEUH/RHC and GRI, with satellite units at Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital, and the Dental Hospital. The facility aims to streamline research processes and ensure safety and efficiency. We are seeking enthusiastic Research Nurses to deliver high-quality nursing care to patients and volunteers involved in clinical research. The role involves coordinating recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring, follow-up, and data documentation, working collaboratively with Principal and Chief Investigators and multidisciplinary teams.

Candidates should be First Level Registered Nurses, with relevant clinical experience, and ideally educated to degree level or working towards it. Knowledge of research principles, confidentiality, randomisation, informed consent, and ethical considerations is important. Familiarity with the Research Governance Framework and good clinical practice is beneficial. Key skills include attention to detail, organization, communication, IT proficiency, and the ability to work independently and within a team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse, educated to degree level or working towards it
  • Relevant clinical experience
  • Knowledge of research regulations and governance (beneficial)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

This role requires PVG Scheme membership or record. If not current, an application must be made through Disclosure Scotland and approved before employment begins.
