Job Summary
Reporting to the Department Manager, the incumbent will coordinate activities supporting the Department of Surgery’s research program. Responsibilities include research accounting, report generation, project setup, ethics coordination, supporting funding applications, liaising with agencies, and assisting with research applications. The role also involves supporting the Surgery Research Director and providing backup finance support to the Department Financial Officer.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Acting as resource person and liaison for research-related matters.
- Supporting research funding applications and organizing related documentation.
- Distributing information on research funding opportunities.
- Coordinating and supporting research committee meetings.
- Providing administrative support to the Research Director.
- Tracking research funding and departmental research activities.
- Drafting funding letters and gathering research data for reports.
- Maintaining filing systems and databases.
- Assisting in planning research events.
- Supporting research accounting activities such as account monitoring, expense processing, and reconciliation.
- Tracking and reporting research metrics annually.
- Assisting with financial reporting and support activities.
- Making decisions on project priorities, grant proposal content, and research inquiries.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 5+ years of related experience, knowledge of university policies, and proficiency in financial and research administration. Skills required include excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The role demands discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to work non-traditional hours periodically.
