Title: Research Coordinator

Organization: Newborn Screening Ontario

Term: Full Time (1.0 FTE); 1-year term with renewal possibility

Salary: $60,000 to $90,000 annually

Reports To: Melanie Lacaria, Interim Molecular Laboratory Head, Newborn Screening Ontario

Position Status: New Position

CHEO RI is the research arm of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and an affiliated institute of the University of Ottawa. We acknowledge the unceded Algonquin Anishinabek territory and honor their enduring presence. Our mission is to advance research that supports world-class care for children and youth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize whole genome sequencing library preparation methods, including automation on robotic instruments and SOP creation.
  • Prepare and sequence whole genome libraries on NovaSeqX+ platforms.
  • Maintain and oversee the NovaSeqX+ instrument.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary study teams regarding sequencing technologies and data interpretation.
  • Contribute to research idea development, proposal writing, and grant applications.
  • Ensure laboratory safety regulations are followed and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Attend staff meetings, participate in quality initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
  • Minimum 5 years of NGS laboratory experience with Illumina platforms.
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing preferred.
  • PhD in molecular biology/genetics or MSc with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and computer technology.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in French and English preferred.
Working Conditions

Laboratory work with flexibility for hybrid remote/on-site work.

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
