Job description

The GERAS Centre for Aging Research is currently looking for a Research Coordinator I to join our dynamic and growing team in a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. We are a CIHR Canadian Research on Aging at Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University. We are passionate to find innovative ways for people to age with dignity and independence. Our primary research focus is to lead in research and innovation in the Geriatric 5Ms : mind, mobility, medications, and multi-complexity by building a framework of what matters most for older adults. We are leaders in research, innovation, and learning for the benefit of our community and the world. We have the largest regional network of geriatricians with meaningful connections to older adults and our research is embedded directly in clinical care and community settings. The successful candidate will work directly with multidisciplinary team members ranging from undergraduate students to post-doctoral fellows and all faculty levels from junior to senior clinician-scientists. They will be responsible for conducting research activities of large multisite multi-disciplinary research programs from recruitment to dissemination. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and successfully manage in a complex, fast-paced clinical environment with multiple and shifting priorities. They will be attentive to detail and ability to always follow tasks through to completion.

Position Summary

  • Responsible for implementing, monitoring, refining, analyzing, coordinating, and reporting on several clinical research projects. Acts as a resource for the development of protocols, study documents, operations of study management, and management techniques.
  • Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.
  • Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 5 casual employees at any one time.
  • Provide orientation and show procedures to others.
  • Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature.
  • Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, and abstracts.
  • Coordinate the activities of research staff and resources to ensure that the project progresses in accordance with predetermined timelines.
  • Develop estimates of time and resources for research projects.
  • Oversee the collection, entry, verification, management, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
  • Design and maintain databases, data collection forms, error checking methods and related programs for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot moderately complex computer problems.
  • Write data management and operations documentation for projects.
  • Liaise between the clinic centre and remote clinic sites and personnel.
  • Conduct structured patient interviews.
  • Ensure that the relevant research methodology is applied and all research material is handled in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in the development of promotional strategies and related materials to encourage participation and support for research projects.
  • Consult on protocol development, student organization, and data management activities.
  • Develop presentations and present information and training sessions to project personnel and project patients.
  • Present at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Keep project participants informed of project progress through regular reports and newsletters.
  • Implement and maintain research project budgets. Create financial projections and make adjustments to research project budgets throughout the fiscal year.
  • Exercise appropriate controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts.
  • Conduct literature searches.

Schedule Work Hours

Full time hours, 37.5 hours / week.

The position is temporary for one year.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Requires 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Masters degree in rehabilitation, recreation / leisure studies or kinesiology
  • Experience conducting geriatric medicine or aging research studies

Assets :

  • Professional membership with Consortium of Canadian Centres for Clinical Cognitive Research (C5R)
  • Strong working knowledge of good clinical practice guidelines and N2 SOPs
  • Strong working knowledge of research process in HIREB, CTO, REDCap, ResearchNet, and ClinicalTrials.gov
  • Clinical Trial experience.
  • GCP, TCPS2 training
  • Ability to design high-quality knowledge translation tools and products using Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
