The Sustainability-Led Integrated Centres of Excellence (SLICE) at Saskatchewan Polytechnic focuses on applied research in sustainable resource management across Saskatchewan’s energy, resources, manufacturing, agriculture, and forestry sectors. SLICE collaborates with industry and community partners to address complex sustainability issues, fostering economic, social, and environmental benefits.
SLICE is seeking a Research Chair in Sustainable Forestry Solutions based at the Prince Albert campus. The ideal candidate will have experience in boreal forest environments, specializing in areas such as forest management, regeneration, wildfire resilience, Indigenous environmental knowledge, value-added forest products, or green construction with innovative wood products. The position offers access to advanced tools like remotely-piloted aircraft systems and sensors, and facilities at the Hannin Creek Applied Research and Education Centre.
The Research Chair will report to the Director of SLICE and lead applied research efforts to develop sustainable forestry solutions. Responsibilities include securing external funding, managing research projects, supervising staff and students, and collaborating with partners to meet research goals. The role requires strong grant-writing, networking, project management, and mentorship skills, with a focus on engaging industry and community in applied research.
