Research Associate, Methane Emissions Reduction - Chemical & Petroleum Engineering

Position Overview

The Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Research Associate in Chemical & Petroleum Engineering. This full-time fixed-term position is approximately 12 months, with potential for extension, reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities
  • Gather, assess, analyze, and document data related to methane emissions from natural gas, oil, and heavy oil operations, as well as midstream and gas distribution systems.
  • Develop modeling approaches for data analysis and contribute to policy and directive development for methane and greenhouse gas emissions management.
  • Collaborate within the Gates Research Group and with other project partners.
  • Disseminate findings through presentations, technical papers, journal publications, and reports.
  • Contribute to progress reporting and assume a leadership role within the research team, including administrative and technical tasks.
  • Assist with grant applications and support junior researchers.
Qualifications
  • PhD in chemical or petroleum engineering.
  • At least five years of relevant research experience with expertise in data analysis and modeling.
  • Strong communication skills for engagement with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in planning, developing, reviewing, and reporting modeling studies.
  • Advanced knowledge of methane emissions, oil and gas operations, and measurement technologies.
  • Familiarity with the methane life cycle and emissions reduction methodologies.
  • Budget management skills and strong computer programming abilities.
  • Leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail and clear communication of results.
