Job Description

The person in this role will assist in directing some research projects with guidance from senior staff as well as manage multiple projects with tasks varying by project.

Members of the Evidence Synthesis team must enjoy exploring, interpreting, and presenting data. These qualities are key to succeeding in this role. You should be skilled in searching for evidence, screening it for relevance, and extracting pertinent details quickly and accurately from a wide range of sources. You should see categorizing and scrutinizing papers as a stimulating challenge. As you grow in the role, you will undertake more senior tasks such as checking colleagues' work, and engaging in qualitative and quantitative analysis, narrative synthesis, and technical writing. You may also take on project management responsibilities, including scientific decision-making, managing budgets and timelines, and client communication. An experienced Research Associate II may lead proposal writing for new research projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting in defining and refining research questions related to project objectives.
  2. Drafting literature searches for scientific databases and grey literature sources.
  3. Developing inclusion/exclusion criteria for screening processes.
  4. Overseeing screening of abstracts and full-text articles against criteria.
  5. Performing data abstraction and extraction, assisting with validation.
  6. Finalizing datasets for analysis.
  7. Drafting tables, figures, reports, protocols, and manuscripts for publication.
  8. Developing project plans, monitoring progress, timelines, and budgets.
  9. Participating in drafting project proposals, including writing introductions, scoping evidence, and budgeting.
  10. Engaging in non-literature research activities like modeling and real-world evidence.
  11. Participating in staff training.

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Background in economics, biology, health sciences, or related fields.
  • Master’s or PhD with at least 1 year of systematic literature review experience and understanding of relevant methodology and statistics.
  • Deep understanding of research principles and familiarity with key literature.
  • Extensive knowledge of practical research implementation.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentations.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Competent in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
