Job description

Fusion Pharmaceuticals, a member of the AstraZeneca Group, is a clinical-stage oncology company focused on developing next-generation radioconjugates (RCs) as precision medicines. Fusion connects alpha particle emitting isotopes to various targeting molecules to selectively deliver the alpha emitting payloads to tumors. Fusion’s clinical portfolio includes but is not limited to: FPI-2265 targeting prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer currently in a Phase 2 trial; FPI-1434 targeting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor currently in a Phase 1 trial; and FPI-2068, a bispecific IgG-based EGFR-cMET targeted radioconjugate currently in a Phase 1 trial. Fusion has multiple other pipeline programs that will soon be entering into early FIH trials. In addition, Fusion is pursuing combination programs between RCs and other therapeutic modalities including DNA Damage Response Inhibitors (DDRis) and immune-oncology agents. To support execution for these programs, Fusion has a fully operational Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant state-of-the-art radioconjugate manufacturing facility to meet supply demand for our growing pipeline of RCs.

Fusion Pharmaceutical is seeking a candidate for Research Associate I - Imaging who will provide technical expertise in the execution of imaging methods and image analysis applied to pre-clinical studies across therapeutic areas. The candidate will work collaboratively with internal research teams to integrate and support the application of imaging towards targeted alpha-particle therapeutic (TAT) development. This position is based at Fusion’s laboratories in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Animal Pharmacology director, develop Fusion’s internal preclinical imaging capabilities and contribute towards incorporation of nuclear imaging modalities into Fusion’s existing experimental workflow
  • As part of Fusion’s Discovery team; work with radiochemistry, biology and non-clinical research departments to develop imaging-based techniques to expand or enhance existing programs and capabilities
  • Design and conduct imaging-based biodistribution studies of radiopharmaceuticals in rodent models of cancer (or other disease indications of interest). Perform image processing and analysis to generate quantitative and qualitative imaging data
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate state of the art PET/SPECT/CT/Optical imaging equipment
  • Produce high quality and well documented data with strong attention to detail
  • Contribute to internal project teams through the setting and achievement of scientific goals, communication of results, and solving multifaceted scientific challenges
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Physics or Medical imaging with 2+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 1+ year of experience.
  • Experience in vivo imaging studies including animal handling, compound administration (various routes) and tissue harvesting.
  • Experience with software image reconstruction and analysis including quantification preferred.
  • Experience with nuclear (PET/SPECT/CT) imaging methods and protocols is a strong preference. Candidates with extensive experience in non-nuclear imaging modalities may also be considered.
  • Experience with in vivo xenograft models in rodents preferred, including experience with cell-culture and tumor implantation.
  • Ability to adapt to, perform, and develop unfamiliar methods in a rapidly evolving research environment
  • Verbal and written proficiency in English
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate with colleagues at all levels
  • Experience with the safe handling of radioactive and potentially biohazardous materials
