About Us: The Occupational Cancer Research Centre is seeking a Research Associate (Epidemiology) to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for conducting research and analysis activities based on project, program, and operational plans. The Research Associate will work both independently and with other staff to advance our understanding of workplace risk factors and exposures and work-related risk of disease in Ontario. By working within a multi-disciplinary team and cross-functional organization, the Research Associate will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience in a variety of initiatives.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Provide study, project, program, and operational support with an emphasis on data analysis and visualization

  • Develop tools, templates, and processes required to execute research and analysis activities, including for grant-funded studies

  • Identify key sources of information and data

  • Define research scope, expected deliverables, and workplan in coordination with the Manager and Scientists

  • Undertake detailed research activities, including researching various information sources and organizing and facilitating working sessions with key stakeholders

  • Review the quality of information and data collected and analyze this information

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses using SAS or R, critically interpret results, and present findings in reports and knowledge transfer products for a variety of audiences

  • Draft reports that summarize research conducted and provide recommendations on actions required, highlighting critical areas for consideration

  • Contribute to the analysis, interpretation, and writing of research articles for publication

  • Assist the Manager and Scientists in presenting research and analysis to stakeholders if required

  • Work with different stakeholders to test or monitor recommendations and solutions stemming from the analysis

  • Identify and escalate risks to the Manager and propose recommendations to address issues

  • Coordinate advisory groups or committees as needed and facilitate meetings

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience

  • A graduate degree (e.g., MSc, MPH) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, or a related public health field

  • Required 2-3 years of experience

  • Experience using large, administrative data sets or health survey data is an asset

  • Proficiency in SAS or R software for statistical analysis

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to coordinate all aspects of a research project

  • Ability to work effectively in a team, but with minimal supervision

  • Strong research and analytical capabilities

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information

  • Demonstrated computer and data management skills with proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
