We are looking to hire a part-time (0.8 FTE) or full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Associate (RA) to join a Youth Engagement in Research Reporting Guideline project to further research on youth engagement in health research. This role is being supported by two Principal Investigators (PIs) - Dr. Alene Toulany (SickKids) and Dr. Sarah Munce (Holland-Bloorview).
The RA role includes registering guidelines with EQUATOR, designing and implementing online modified Delphi methods (e.g., preparing and submitting REB applications, implementing iterative online surveys, recruitment of expert participants), analyzing results (including rapid quantitative and content analysis between Delphi rounds), planning and coordination of a consensus meeting after the online modified Delphi, and preparing the final reporting guidelines. The RA will also assist in preparing study results, including presentations, progress reports, and manuscripts. Previous experience with guideline development or online modified Delphi's preferred.

- Assist the PIs in research guideline development; contribute to preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts
- Assist PIs with scientific review process
- Encourage and foster collaborative relationships with community partners
- Conduct literature reviews and keep current with study literature
- Attend and document outcomes of study team meetings
- Develop and monitor study timelines
- Initiate and maintain a research folder that will include all study-related documentation
- Demonstrate scientific creativity and/or knowledge in a particular field
- Independently design and implement research projects which include the analysis of feasibility and application of a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts
- Remain current on research of current principles and theories
- Independently determine new data required to develop a paper
- Arrange publication of articles in international journals and publications
- Design lay-out and prepare peer reviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals
- Apply highly advanced knowledge of innovative research principles, theories and concepts
- Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts
- Provide leadership and supervision within the research group on scientific matters
- Provide a continuity of research
- Assist the PI in ensuring fiscal safety and legislative responsibilities are maintained
- Assume responsibility for interpreting assignments, planning a series of experiments, correlating data, evaluating results, and preparing reports embodying pertinent hypotheses, assumptions, procedures and findings
- Independently design and/or create new techniques, procedures and practices
- Participate in ad hoc committees within the Research Institute
- Perform in-depth analyses of a range of extremely complex problems requiring evaluation of multiple intangible variables and alternative solutions
- Exercise extensive independent judgement, initiative and decision making to resolve problems
- Revise existing and/or develop new methods and evaluation criteria for problem analysis and resolution
- Develop guidelines, procedures and standards
- Serve as the spokesperson and authority for internal and external contacts on a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts
- Develop and present material for publication using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express highly complex scientific concepts effectively
- Present scientific outcomes to the department, members of the research community and international conferences
- Assist the PI in preparing reviews of others' grant application and manuscripts as appropriate
Here's What You'll Need
- Ph.D. with 1 - 2 years relevant experience OR MSc. with 5 - 7 years relevant experience
- Min. 2 years of clinical or public health research experience
- Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications
- Demonstrated commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
- Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team
- Effective communication, interpersonal, facilitation and organizational skills
- Comfort working with community partners/organizations
- Previous experience in qualitative research and/or patient engagement is an asset
- Maturity, flexibility and an ability to prioritize project needs
- Excellent project coordination/management skills
Employment Type: Temporary 1 year contract, 0.8-1.0 FTE
