Job summary

A leading biotechnology company in Montreal is seeking a qualified candidate to perform genetic analyses of yeasts, bacteria, and fungi. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor degree in Molecular Biology and hands-on laboratory experience, specifically with PCR techniques and Sanger sequencing. Job description

Main Functions

You will report directly to the manager of the genetic identification laboratory and carry out the genetic analysis of yeasts, bacteria, and fungi.

The main functions associated with this position are:

  • Perform technical work according to the requests of external and internal collaborators.
  • Independently compile and link multiple data sets to draw conclusions.
  • Interpret data and propose conclusions independently.
  • Communicate the results of the analyses.
  • Maintain the equipment and consumables necessary for the laboratory to function efficiently.
  • Organize combinations of experiments, taking into account short- and long-term deliverables.
  • Collaborate on the research projects.
  • Make suggestions for future experiments based on existing data.
  • Design and solve laboratory experiments independently.
  • Serve as a source of information and training for new employees.
  • Communicate existing procedures and train new employees on technical tasks.
  • Present results at internal company events in various languages.

Technical skills

Required

  • Bachelor degree in Molecular biology
  • Hands-on experience in a molecular biology laboratory
  • Skilled in PCR-based techniques, including RAPD-PCR, Microsatellite analysis, qPCR
  • Extensive experience with Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE)
  • Experience with Sanger sequencing workflows
  • Competence in Amplicon-based metagenomics using Oxford Nanopore Technologies platforms
  • Extensive experience working in sterile/aseptic conditions for microbial culture and DNA handling
  • Ability to follow and optimize standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Data analysis and interpretation using relevant software (e.g., GeneMapper, BioNumerics, Nanopore EPI2ME, or similar)
  • Accurate documentation of experimental workflows and results
  • Ability to communicate in French or English
