Job Summary
Works at the Infant Studies Centre in the Department of Psychology under the supervision of the Director and Research Manager. Assists with running experiments by recruiting and scheduling participants and explaining procedures. Helps to train and oversee volunteers, to organize events, and to update written material. Assists with maintaining research equipment and lab/office supplies.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Director and the Research Manager. Works closely with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate students, and technicians.

Work Performed
- Assists in running experiments following set protocols and guidelines. This includes greeting parents, explaining procedures, setting up and monitoring equipment, and running the study according to protocols established by the researchers. This involves a reasonable understanding of the projects goals and methods.
- Recruits and schedules research participants. This includes contacting families by phone and e-mail to gather information and to schedule participation times. Collects, codes, and enters data on a client database. Maintains the lab s calendar to keep it organized and accurate. Resolves problems when appropriate and as necessary.
- Assists with troubleshooting hardware and software used in the lab. Contacts vendors or technicians when service is required. Maintains and updates inventories of computers, equipment, software and licenses. Also maintains office supplies.
- Assists with training and overseeing the work of volunteers.
- Helps organize lab events.
- Updates the lab manual, lab website, and various bibliographic and curriculum vitae documents using information provided by the Director and Research Manager.
- Other duties as appropriate with this position level.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Much of the work follows established protocols and the employee s performance will be monitored. There is room for individual initiative and a need to resolve problems using basic good judgement and common sense. Incorrect decisions could affect the public s impression of the Lab and their willingness to participate in future research projects, therefore errors may result in loss of data and slowing of productivity.

Supervision Received
The employee will be under general supervision, receiving specific instruction when new duties are assigned and when unusual problems arise. Tasks and achievement targets will be assigned by the Lab Director and the Research Manager.

Supervision Given
The employee may need to explain routine tasks to volunteers and ensure that they are carrying out procedures properly.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Systems, or other relevant discipline preferred.

- Experience working in recruitment and/or with the public - in particular, with parents, infants, and/or children - is an asset.

- Experience conducting behavioural research is an asset.

- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

- Computer experience with both Mac and Windows; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

- Knowledge of FileMaker Pro and/or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.

- Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.

- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and targets set by the Director or Research Manager.

- Effective organizational skills and the ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

- Ability in research design and statistical analyses.

- Ability to interact well with research participants (both children and adults) in the laboratory and local community.

- Ability to respect confidentiality and securely manage sensitive information.
