Job summary

The University of Manitoba is seeking a data-focused research assistant to support studies in the Department of Food Science. You will help manage data, assist with literature reviews, and coordinate study activities within a cooperative team environment.

Responsibilities include data entry, ethics documentation, and supporting statistical analyses using SPSS/SAS/STATA. Travel to Winnipeg sites and provincial locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related social science with lab analysis techniques.
  • Community college program in related discipline with 1 year directly related experience.
  • High school completion with 4+ years directly related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Meets regularly with Researchers to discuss study progress and data collection.
  • Ensures smooth day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
  • Prepares documents for ethic review, privacy and data access applications.
  • Coordinates research meeting schedules and updates stakeholders.
  • Conducts literature reviews for research papers and grants.
  • Runs basic statistical analyses in SPSS/SAS/STATA.
  • Maintains REDCap databases and recruits participants for studies.
  • Travels to Winnipeg sites and across the province when required.

Job description

Existing Regular Continuing Full-Time (Budget Funded)

Full-time: Yes

Permanent: Yes

Work schedule: 35 Hours/week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm)

Salary: $23.13 to $33.29 per hour ($42,096.60 to $60,587.80 per annum)

Expected Start Date September 28, 2026

840 hours worked

Qualifications

MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related study area such as psychology or other social science, including laboratory analysis techniques.

OR

  • Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one years = directly-related experience.

OR

  • High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly-related experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with confidential patient health care data is required.
  • Experience in a mentalhealth environment (preferablyuniversity-based) is preferred .
  • Experience working in a research environment ispreferred.
  • Experience working with research participants is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to carry out research procedures under general direction and to keep within budget and schedule guidelines is required.
  • Ability to travel to various sites in Winnipeg and across the province is required.
  • Ability and willingness to learn newtechniques and administer specific phases of projects are required.
  • Must have proficiency intheuseof shorthand and/or recording equipment totranscribe when required.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team is required.
  • Effectivecommunicationskills, bothwritten andverbalarerequired.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Mustbe able to completeassigned tasks accuratelyand meetdeadlines is required.
  • Strong organizationaland time-management s kills are required .
  • Ability to pay attention to details and follow instructions is required .
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge of PIPPA and PHIA is required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with REDCap and SPSS i s preferred .
  • Experience with electronic health records preferred .
Key responsibilities

Administration :

  • Meets regularly with Researchers to discuss study progress, issues and status, and quality of datacollection.
  • Ensures smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
  • Provides updates and progress reports to members of the research team and stakeholders.
  • Prepares documents for ethic review, privacy and data access applications.
  • Coordinates research meeting schedules and bookings.
  • Updates stakeholder lists and contact information.
  • Assisting with clinical and quality improvement tasks when required.
  • Participates inmeetings.

Scientific Analysis, Reading and writing :

  • Conducts literature reviews for research papers andgrants.
  • Drafts reports to stakeholders and grantingagencies.
  • Assistswithpreparationofreportsandpublicationsincludingdevelopingmaterials,e.g.,posters,slideshows,etc.,forpresentationsof projects/research.
  • Runs basis statistical analysis in programs such as SPSS, SAS, orSTATA.
  • Assists the department on data submission requirements, including frequency and format.
  • Ensures data integrity by performing rigorous cleaning, error checking, and validation.
  • Contributes to research analysis, including interpretation and preparation of research repo1is, as well as assisting with writing of grant proposals.
  • Travels to conferences to present research findings when required.
Laboratory experiments:
  • Providescoordinationofresearchandqualityimprovementstudies,includingobservationalstudies,surveys,in-personquestionnaires,qualitative interviews, and cha1ireviews.
  • Creates and maintains REDCap databases for multiple projects.
  • Recruits participants for research studies including obtaining consent from them and booking appointments.
  • Collectsdataforresearchandqualityimprovementprojects(includes,butnotlimitedto,conductingopen-endedindividualinterviews,focusgroup interviews,participantobservation,administeringquestionnaires,andcollectingadditional informationfromselectedrecords).
  • Developsandmaintainsstudy materialsincluding assent/consentforms,datacollection tools,casereportforms,sourcedocuments,andother research project relatedmaterials.
  • Monitorstheprogressofresearchactivities;developsandmaintainsrecordsofresearchactivities,preparingperiodicandadhocrepo1isasrequired by investigators, administrators and fundingagencies.
  • Maintains data files in accordance with ethicalguidelines.
  • Travels to sites within Winnipeg and the province for research studies.
  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
