The Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) is Canada’s national military university based in Kingston, Ontario. RMC has within its mandate the provision to carry out research and other forms of support for the Department of National Defence (DND) and other government departments.
Position Overview
Calian is seeking a Research Assistant to join the RMC Green Team, a multidisciplinary research group supporting the Department of National Defence (DND). The team focuses on sustainable infrastructure and environmental projects across DND installations. The successful candidate will contribute to studies and activities related to energy and power in sustainable infrastructure. They will assist with data analysis, technical report writing, and supporting the team in executing energy-focused projects for DND.
Responsibilities
Conduct technical report writing and data analysis
Perform literature reviews (research journals, policy documents, DND materials, and technical reports)
Participate in team meetings
Prepare presentations for meetings with supervisors and sponsors
Conduct site visits to DND installations and evaluate base facilities' performance
Assist other team members with tasks under tight timelines
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field
Strong technical and report writing skills
Experience in energy and power, with a focus on sustainable infrastructure projects
Proficiency with MS Office and other relevant software applications
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Recent graduates with a degree in science or engineering
Ex-military members with relevant degrees and/or military experience
2 to 3 years of experience in energy-related projects (alternate energy technologies, energy efficiency, waste management, etc.)
Familiarity with Federal and Provincial environmental regulatory frameworks
Understanding of DND’s internal operations and structure is an asset
Effective interpersonal and public relations skills
Ability to adapt quickly while adhering to deadlines
Availability to travel approximately 20% of the time (fully compensated, including weekends if required) with a valid driver’s license
Additional Requirements
Must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
Must be a Canadian Citizen
