Research Assistantship Job Profile

Main Tasks

  • Organizing and analyzing job postings for gender-based violence (GBV) organizations.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative secondary data collected for the labour force strategy.
  • Participate and provide research support at an event.

Detailed Job Description

This is a summer/fall Research Assistantship to be completed by September 30, 2025.

This community action-based project is being led by the Ending Sexual Violence Association of Canada (ESVA Canada). It is an exciting opportunity for a PhD student to engage in research that will contribute to shaping national policies related to workers in the GBV sector. The position includes three key tasks.

With guidance from the Professor and ESVA Canada, the Research Assistant will:

  • · Complete a comprehensive analysis of job postings in gender-based violence (GBV) community-based organizations, such as sexual assault centres and women’s shelters using existing job databases (e.g. Charity Village).
  • · This phase of the research may also include reviewing existing labour force strategies.

In partnership with the Professor and ESVA Canada, the Research Assistant will:

  • · Analyze qualitative and quantitative secondary data from stakeholder consultations and a survey to document and identify the needs of the workforce.
  • · The analysis will locate key codes/themes and identify patterns in the data to supplement the recommendations and action plan for the final report.
  • · We will work closely with the ESVA Canada’s research team in collaboration to compare and validate the codes. We will use NVivo software to organize our analysis, research notes, and codes.

In collaboration with the Professor and ESVA Canada, the Research Assistant will:

  • · Attend a national labour force strategy expert engagement session with labour and GBV community experts, September 19, 2025 at SPU.
  • · Provide research support at the event (notetaking).
  • · Co-present findings at community and academic events.

The research assistant will have the opportunity to network and work closely with leading experts in GBV, learning firsthand the importance and impact of community-based research that centres action and social transformation.

This is the first project of its kind in Canada. The student will gain invaluable experience working in collaboration with community groups and learning various research methods throughout the project.
