Temporary Full Time (1 year)

An exciting full-time temporary opportunity as a Research Assistant II exists in the Women’s College Research Institute, reporting to Dr. Mona Loutfy.

The successful applicant will function in an independent role as a Research Assistant (RA) II supporting multiple provincial and national projects within the Women HIV and Health Research Program (WHRP). WHRP is a feminist and community-based research program that was founded in 2006 with the mission to work with women living with and affected by HIV to carry out research aims to address topics deemed important to them and to optimize their well-being. This position will support all projects under WHRP with a focus on HIV/STBBI prevention, the Women-Centred HIV Care Pocketbook Implementation, CIHR-Funded WCHC Hub activities, and the Trans Women and Gender-Diverse people HIV/STBBI Health Research Initiative (TWIRI).

The ideal candidate is preferred to have experience working with women and gender-diverse people, HIV or sexual health research, and/or community-based research, and will be comfortable working independently in a hybrid work environment. Some travel in Ontario may be required.

Summary of Duties, but not limited to :

  • Assist with preparation and submission of Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and amendments.
  • Assist with submission of manuscripts to scientific journals – may involve creating tables, figures, proof reading, preparation of cover letter, coordinating documents to sign, electronic submission
  • Some understanding of research design and research ethics
  • Responsible for research tasks as assigned (e.g., screening, consenting and/or interviewing participants)
  • Support the coordination of knowledge mobilization activities, such as event planning.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining communication materials, including newsletters and social media.
  • Assist team members with preparing materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
  • Assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the interpretation of results
  • Assist with literature reviews and environmental scans
  • Communicates with Research Coordinator and Principal Investigator to provide updates
  • Schedules and attends research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
  • Creates workplans and prioritizes and monitors various study deadlines for their own work
  • Provides other administrative support as required, including acquiring signatures and CV maintenance
  • Support and engage with research coordinators, community research leadership coordinators, students, research manager and principal investigators as needed
  • Assists with grant and study reporting including interim, final, and financial
  • Assists with investigators’ CVs and scheduling
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Qualifications/Skills :

Six (6) months to three (3) years of related experience working in a hospital or academic setting

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Work efficiently under pressure with strong judgement and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Mastery of MS Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Access and Word an asset
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
