Job summary

University of Calgary’s Department of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This full-time fixed-term position (≈7 months, with possible extension) supports multiple research and co-design projects, working with the Project Manager to disseminate knowledge and adapt a pregnancy-vaccine communication approach for Newcomers to Canada.

Qualifications

  • Background in health education or health promotion is desirable.
  • Experience with participatory and community engagement research, including working with advisory groups and newcomer communities is very desirable.
  • Qualitative research experience is required.
  • Ability to translate scientific information for diverse audiences.
  • Experience producing visual research outputs (presentations, infographics, social media content).
  • Academic writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • High level of concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and NVivo.

Responsibilities

  • Execution of key research activities under limited supervision in consultation with the project coordinator and the principal investigator, including:
  • Support data collection, cleaning and analysis for use in scholarly publications
  • Assist with conducting interviews, focus groups and co design sessions
  • Support recruitment activities by sending invitations, coordinating schedules, and maintaining accurate project tracking logs
  • Synthesizing evidence
  • Preparing presentations, summary tables, slide decks, and other project-related materials
  • Assisting on project documentation (both electronic and physical files) in accordance with Access to Information under the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) standards set by the University of Calgary
  • Supporting Research Ethics Board applications and revisions
  • Assist with manuscript preparation for publication
