RESEARCH ASSISTANT

ON-SITE

Position Type: Full-Time Contract

Shift Type: Onsite, Day

Bi-Weekly Hours: 70 Hours

Hours of Work: 7 hrs /shift

Job Summary:
Research at Baycrest is coordinated through the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education (BARE), which is home to the Rotman Research Institute (RRI), one of the world’s most acclaimed research centres for the study of aging and human brain function, and the Centre for Education & Knowledge Exchange in Aging, a leading provider of innovative education in geriatrics, brain health, and aging.
The successful applicant will support clinical research projects focused on application of transcranial magnetic stimulation to improve mood or cognition in older adults. The projects also involve neuropsychological assessments, behavioral task paradigms, physiological assessment, and neuroimaging.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Recruitment of participants for research studies
  • Scheduling and screening eligible research participants
  • Conducting mood and memory assessments of research participants
  • Conducting physiological assessments using BIOPAC
  • Maintaining subject records
  • Administering transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in clinical trials
  • Scheduling and preparing for MRI or MEG
  • Data entry and analysis, including behavioral, neuropsychological, and imaging data
  • Database management
  • Preparing tables and figures, literature searches and summaries for grants and manuscripts
  • Preparing Health Canada regulatory submissions, REB submissions, progress reports, and other administrative duties
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • B.A. /B.Sc. in Psychology, Neuroscience or Health Sciences related discipline plus previous summer, work-term or full-time paid employment as a research assistant/analyst ORMaster’s degree with practical experience in recruitment and assessment of research participants
  • Experience working with older adults and individuals with mood and/or memory problems in a clinical or research setting
  • Previous experience coordinating clinical trials
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and pay attention to detail
  • Excellent writing skill and organizational skills
  • Capacity to learn and adapt to new tasks quickly
  • Technical proficiency with word processing, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Experience conducting basic analyses using statistical packages (SPSS) and data interpretation.
  • Experience with neuroimaging data collection and analysis using FreeSurfer, SPM, AFNI
