Job Description

ECO Canada is looking for a performance-driven individual to join the team immediately. Reporting to the Research Director, the successful candidate will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to conduct labour market research and develop competency standards related to the environmental workforce.

As a key member of the Research team, the Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting labour market research, developing competency profiles, preparing and analyzing data, writing and editing reports, and coordinating ECO Canada’s research initiatives. The different types of research produced by ECO Canada are foundhere.

While each member of ECO Canada has individual responsibilities, ECO takes a team-based approach. Everyone is encouraged to take ownership of their ideas and to see them through to completion, collaborating with key influencers as required.

Responsibilities

The Research Analyst supports the various types of research within ECO Canada, including market, economic, policy and competency standards research. The specific duties performed by the Research Analyst will be determined by the current phase of each research project and the priority of research tasks. The successful candidate will also contribute to project management and the development and delivery of presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct detailed labour market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges within the Canadian environmental workforce.
  • Write, review, edit, data check, and proofread research reports and supplementary materials.
  • Analyze job postings to determine knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to an occupation.
  • Develop and maintain competency profiles for various roles within the environmental sector.
  • Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders through briefings, webinars, and conference presentations.
  • Design, program, and analyze surveys using online survey platforms and statistical tools.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure research aligns with organizational goals and industry needs.
  • Organize, attend, and record stakeholder and team meetings.
  • Prepare materials for meetings and outreach activities, including agendas, slide decks, reports, and speaking notes.
  • Conduct interviews and support focus groups, roundtables, advisory committees, workshops, and events.
  • Respond to data requests and provide support to peers and leaders across departments.
  • Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of research project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.
  • Assist in drafting project updates, final reports, and funding proposals.
  • Contribute to the mentorship and coordination of interns.
  • Oversee the work of consultants to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and developments in the labour market and environmental sectors.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of labour market and economic data sources and methodologies.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to develop and maintain databases and data management systems.
  • Excellent report writing and data visualization skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience with online survey platforms.

Required Transferable Skills

  • Self-motivated and adaptable, willing to take on new challenges and work in new ways.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.
  • Comfortable presenting research findings to diverse audiences, including industry professionals, community stakeholders, and policymakers.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate insights from complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction and guidance to team members, collaborators, and consultants on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to track deliverables and contribute to project planning and execution.
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in French is an asset.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized college or university, preferably in Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, or Public Policy/Administration.
  • A minimum of three years of related experience working with market, economic, policy, or social research data, including analysis and reporting.
  • Project management or coordination experience is an asset.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff or coordinating team-based tasks is an asset.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Access, SQL, R, or Python) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian environmental sector is an asset.

This role is a permanent Full-Time position.

This role is based at ECO Canada’s Calgary head office (unless otherwise noted). After a 3-month probation period, eligible employees may transition to a hybrid schedule with at least 3 days per week in the office.
