Position: Residential Care Worker (RCW)
Location: 180 Henry Ave - Front Desk (in person)
Status: Permanent Position
Hours per week: 40 hours per week
Work Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Shift: Night Shift
Time: 11:30 pm to 7:30 am
Pay: 17.77 per hour per shift
Position is Unionized
Shift Premiums: Evening $1.00/hr; Weekend $1.35/hr; Night $1.75/hr (to a max of 8 hours per shift).

Job Purpose
Purpose: The Residential Care Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Monitor activities of clients/residents and provide personal, practical, and morale support; may include safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
- Accurately record day-to-day happenings; maintain logbooks and occurrence reports.
- Liaise with referral sources and external agencies as needed (e.g., welfare, police, urgent situations).
- Coordinate client care related to security; may perform random urinalysis and breathalyzer tests; conduct bed checks; ensure adherence to check-in times and curfews.
- Conduct inspections/security checks of property and grounds per policies.
- Handle admissions, orientation, and evaluation of clients; enforce policies; may involve client discipline.
- Manage finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets (receipting).
- May serve as reception for shelter and may prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Note
Not all incumbents perform all duties described but perform a similar range of duties. All responsibilities are performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values in a professional manner and in alignment with our code of conduct.
Education & Experience
- Minimum education: High school completion plus specialized courses up to six months (Addictions facilities). An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Special licenses / certifications / requirements: Addiction facility and addictions counseling courses. Precautionary measures as noted.
- Minimum prior related experience: More than three months but less than one year in a frontline social services setting.
Physical & Work Environment
- Physical effort: Moderate keyboard use and walking.
- Concentration: Continuous monitoring of environment, security cameras, and interactions with clients and recording information.
- Financial resources: Minor financial matters; may spend or collect small amounts of cash; limited budget input.
- Work environment: Dealing with angry or abusive people, verbal abuse, isolation, and shift-work affecting lifestyle. Travel may be minimal. Pager/walkie-talkie required.
- Exposures to hazards: Risk of minor to moderate injury or illness; physical attacks, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, sharp objects, and other dangerous situations.
