Metroland is participating in Canada’s 'Local Journalism Initiative', which aims to promote local journalism in underserved communities across Canada.

The Huntsville Forester seeks an energetic reporter with a journalism degree or equivalent for a unique opportunity.

This temporary full-time contract requires producing 5-7 stories weekly for muskokaregion.com, with content also shared across other media outlets and Metroland publications.

The contract ends on September 30, 2025. Application deadline: May 28, 2025. Salary: $37,850.13 to $56,829.84 annually.

While working virtually, you must be available for interviews and photography locally. Salary is paid via a government grant.

The role focuses on civic journalism in Huntsville and Lake of Bays, covering local government, law enforcement, courts, fire departments, and government agencies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Report on municipal issues with a keen interest.
  • Take quality photographs for publication.
  • Generate engaging story ideas.
  • Adhere to Canadian Libel Law and Press Style.
  • Collaborate with the local news editor to produce relevant stories in traditional and innovative formats.
  • Create trustworthy journalism with strong reporting, research, and data analysis skills.
  • Develop multimedia content for websites and social media, including videos and audio.
  • Travel within the community for events outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
