Job summary

GTA Mavericks Basketball Association in Vaughan, Canada, seeks a dedicated basketball coach to develop players through structured practice plans, game strategies, and skill-building while keeping the sport enjoyable.

The role focuses on teaching proper technique, monitoring academics, maintaining player development records, and promoting sportsmanship. Travel for games and clinics is required; a background check will be completed prior to start.

Qualifications

• 3+ years basketball coaching/playing experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals including offensive/defensive strategies, drills, and team management.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Knowledge of sport safety guidelines and injury prevention.
• Ability to motivate student-athletes, create a positive team environment, and demonstrate sportsmanship.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead by example.
• Valid driver’s license is required (including travel as needed).
• Successful completion of background check(s) required prior to start date.
• Ability to travel as needed for games/tournaments/clinics etc.

• Teach players proper technique for all aspects of the game including footwork, ball handling, shooting mechanics, defense techniques, court positioning etc.
• Monitor student-athlete's academic and social progress
• Establish high standards for team conduct, encouragement and discipline
• Communicate regularly with players, parents, administration, and other staff members of the organization
• Create a positive environment where players can learn fundamental skills to play successfully at higher levels
• Maintain records of player development and performance over the course of the season
• Attend coaching seminars, clinics, and meetings as required
