As a Rental Technician, you will program and tune communication equipment via Motorola and other manufacturers’ proprietary software and applications. Hands‑on in‑office training will be provided to the rental technician for all parts of our fleet. The Rental Technician supports the branch, assisting with the fulfillment of radio rental orders by building code plugs, configuring/programming radios and systems, cleaning, organizing, storing, delivering, installing, picking up, and testing of radio and associated accessories.
Responsibilities
- Work onsite at customer locations before, during, and after events to monitor and troubleshoot two‑way radio systems.
- Build programming code plugs for two‑way radios and equipment.
- Build, tune, and program two‑way radio infrastructure.
- Perform basic networking of two‑way radio infrastructure.
- Become proficient with programming software and third‑party vendor applications.
- Perform troubleshooting and field repair/replacement of rental equipment as needed.
- Deploy scanner to determine usable frequencies for the necessary rental communications system.
- Perform intermodulation studies as needed for trunked repeater systems.
- Cleans, programs, assembles, and tests equipment for rentals.
- Assists in prepping, delivering, and picking up rental orders.
- Work in a team environment to provide a high level of support to rental personnel.
- Installs and tests radio infrastructure on‑site before radio delivery date, ensuring proper coverage and operations PRIOR to subscriber delivery.
- Ensures rentals are delivered or shipped to meet customer‑specified delivery dates and times.
- Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicles.
- Remains available to support deployed rental equipment/systems.
- Removes infrastructure when the rental event is over and the equipment is no longer used.
- Assists local branches and other area teams when needed.
- Responsible for following all policies and procedures established by BearCom.
- Helps with other projects as needed and performs any other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be technically adept and able to learn on the job.
- Must have proficient level computer skills.
- Having technical acumen in RF is preferred, but not required.
- Must have ability to troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment problems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
- Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
- Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety, and quality instructions.) Second language is a plus.
- Must be comfortable to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Drug screenings and background checks are part of the hiring process, which may include a Motor Vehicle Record check.
