Job summary

Zoic Studios in British Columbia seeks an Environment Artist to craft photorealistic CG environments that fit the film’s look and production schedule. You will work with the Lead and Sr artists to build cohesive digital worlds for stop-motion features.

The role requires 3–5 years’ ervaring in CG environments, advanced Houdini skills, and USD pipeline familiarity, with strong color and lighting sensibilities. Remote or Vancouver studio work options are available.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ experience designing CG environments for photorealistic feature films and television.
• Excellent sense of color, lighting, texture, perspective, and composition.
• Strong understanding of geography and landscape.
• Strong aesthetic sense and ability to interpret the film’s style in 3D designs.
• Advanced Houdini experience in environment creation (heightfield and scatter).
• Experience with a USD pipeline.
• Proficiency with 3D software in production (e.g., ZBrush, Mari, Maya, Blender).
• Knowledge of Katana, RenderMan, Unreal, Photoshop, and Nuke is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create photorealistic CG environments matching the film’s look and production deadlines.
• Generate 2D/3D backgrounds, layouts, and CG environments to establish a cohesive digital world.
• Assemble environment assets in Houdini for downstream departments.
• Use in-house Houdini tools to build landscapes.
• Collaborate to contribute visual ideas that support the story.
• Incorporate environments into shot designs.
• Participate in regular review sessions.
