Job summary

Autodesk Canada is seeking a Principal Software Developer to join the APS Developer Portal team. You will shape architecture, solve complex engineering problems, and lead technical direction including developer app lifecycle, APIs, documentation, analytics, and AI-enabled workflows.

You will partner with Engineering, Product, Design and Architecture to translate customer needs into scalable solutions, mentor developers, and raise engineering standards while balancing delivery speed with

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leading complex initiatives.
Strong fundamentals and experience building and operating production systems.
Architecture and system-design experience with complex web apps and APIs.
Hands-on programming with modern backend/frontend tech, cloud services, APIs, data stores.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools with good judgment.
Ability to influence decisions across multiple teams without direct authority.
Strong written and verbal communication and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for high-impact initiatives spanning multiple components.
Define and evolve scalable, secure architectures and balance delivery with long-term health.
Communicate tradeoffs and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Identify cross-team risks and establish reusable architectural patterns.
Remain hands-on with architecture, design, prototyping, and code reviews.
Own end-to-end initiatives from exploration to production readiness.
Improve developer workflows for app creation, API access, and documentation.
Lead resolution of complex production issues and address root causes.
Raise engineering standards via reviews, testing, and operational readiness.
Promote tooling that improves software quality, reliability, and delivery.
Use production signals and customer feedback to improve systems.
Leverage AI-assisted development tools across the lifecycle with judgement.
Mentor developers through guidance, design discussions, and feedback.
Share knowledge broadly to help teams solve complex problems.
Foster collaborative engineering culture and constructive decisions.
