Job description

Culinary Professional Sought for Remote Lodge Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced culinary professional to join our team at a remote lodge in Fort McMurray, AB. As 1st Cook / Sous Chef, you will alternate between preparing meals and overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring high standards in food quality, safety, and team performance.

This is a dynamic role that requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. You must be adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in a similar position, with journeyman or Red Seal Certification. They should also possess valid WHMIS, Food Safe Advanced, and First Aid certifications.

Job Responsibilities :

  • As 1st Cook :
  • Prepare and serve meals according to the daily menu and specifications.
  • Supervise kitchen staff during meal preparation and service.
  • Maintain proper food handling, storage, and rotation (HACCP / FIFO compliance).
  • Ensure timely, high-quality meal service and maintain updated menu boards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior cooks and new staff.
  • As Sous Chef :
  • Assume acting Chef duties during absences, overseeing kitchen operations and supervising culinary staff.
  • Plan, prepare, and present meals and pastries according to menu and crew size.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as meal sheets, inventory, time sheets, and menu planning.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure effective communication across the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Journeyman or Red Seal Certification.
  • Valid WHMIS, Food Safe Advanced, and First Aid certifications.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in time management and prioritization.
