Job summary

Julliette’s Place (Homeward Family Shelter) in Toronto is seeking a Relief Women’s Advocate on call for day and night shifts. You will assess shelter requests, provide information and referrals, offer crisis support, and accompany residents through advocacy and group activities.

The role requires a post-secondary diploma or degree with two years related experience and willingness to undergo a criminal reference check. Benefits are per collective agreement.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree directly related to the position with 2 years directly related work experience.
  • Experience working with women in areas of violence, poverty, and mental health.
  • Certification in the Ontario College of Social Service Workers/Social Workers.
  • Fluency in French or other languages is a definite asset.
  • Proficiency with data base and computer literacy.

Julliette’s Place (Homeward Family Shelter) Currently seeks Relief Women’s Advocate On Call- Days & Nights Shifts September 9th, 2026

Mission: Julliette’s Place (Homeward Family Shelter) provides safe, short-term emergency shelter to women and children fleeing violence and abuse and helps them to build their skills through educational programs and support services.

Responsibilities:
  1. 1. Support and Service

    • Completes assessment and intake for women requesting shelter
    • Provides information and referral to both women in the community and shelter residents
    • Crisis support to women both over the telephone and in shelter
    • Individual counselling to shelter residents
    • Acts as an advocate and provides support and accompaniment
    • Facilitates house meetings and in-house support groups
    • Mediates conflict between residents
    • Provides daily concrete support services to residents, such as TTC, clothing, food, first aid.
    • Ensures the health and safety of shelter residents
  2. 2. Administration

    • Maintains women’s files in data base and completes all shelter documentation
    • Maintains service statistics
    • Completes all household and shift duties
    • Report writing as required
  3. 3. General

    • Works co-operatively as a member of the shelter team.
    • Attends regular relief team meetings, staff training sessions and planning meetings as required
    • Supervises students and volunteers
    • Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding in the efficient operation of the organization
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Post-secondary Diploma or Degree directly related to the position and 2 years directly related work experience
  • Experience working with women in the areas of violence, poverty, and mental health
  • Above average knowledge of risk management assessments
  • Demonstrated commitment to women’s issues and anti-oppression
  • Certification in the Ontario College of Social Service Workers/Social Workers
  • Fluency in French or any other languages definite asset
  • Computer literacy and data base knowledge

Hours: On Call Salary: As per the Collective Agreement

This position requires a criminal reference check as per Ministry requirements.
