Title: Relief Education Assistant 2 - 27.5 hours per week

Wage: $30.97 - $32.29 hourly (effective July 1, 2024)
Summary
Under the supervision of the teacher, the Education Assistant 2 supports small groups and/or individual students with specific activities in academic and behavioral areas, following an education plan. They monitor and assist students during unstructured times such as recess, lunch, before and after school, and between classes.
Duties
- Performs general health procedures (e.g., hygiene, toileting, feeding, positioning, transferring).
- May perform communication and performance skill activities under the guidance of specialized staff (e.g., articulation, language, motor training, adaptive technology).
- Assists students in developing independence in life skills.
- Accompanies students to community activities.
- Supports specific drill activities, note-taking, and scribing.
- Prepares instructional materials.
- Participates in parent and staff conferences as directed.
- Observes and records student behaviors and performance.
- Scores tests and maintains records.
- Administers medication as authorized.
- Monitors student behavior inside and outside the classroom.
- Fosters cooperative relationships among students and staff.
- Reports safety issues, behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate, resolving minor issues when possible.
- Ensures students enter the school after breaks as required.
- Attends to minor injuries.
- May have specific supervision duties per school.
- Supervises student transfers to buses.
- May work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Organizes and manages activity materials and equipment.
- Assists in organizing school events and activities.
- Adheres to safety protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Grade 12 education.
- Six college/university courses related to children or youth with exceptional needs.
- At least one year of relevant experience.
- Experience with specific exceptionalities may be required.
- Valid BC driver’s license may be required.
- Child behavior management skills.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate educational equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to follow individualized education plans and medication protocols.
- Confidentiality.

- Child-specific equipment (e.g., communication aids).
Physical Abilities
- Good vision and hearing.
