Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Reliability Technologist designs, improves, and plans maintenance and reliability projects to ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements. The specialist provides technical support and leads projects supporting the Maintenance & Reliability Department, ensuring equipment reliability. Responsibilities include analyzing business trends, managing project budgets, developing custom reports, and identifying opportunities for reliability improvements and cost savings. An engineering technologist can support electricians, mechanics, and staff in technical areas such as instrumentation, PLCs, and robotics, reducing dependence on contractors.

This position is based at Halifax Shipyard, reporting to the Manager, Reliability, supporting the Facilities and Maintenance team at Irving Shipbuilding, and aiding Production and operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure critical production equipment meets applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Research and analyze new equipment and methods to support increased productivity.
  • Manage projects to ensure they meet cost, schedule, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Develop and implement safety and quality management plans for projects.
  • Develop and implement maintenance and reliability improvement plans with stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Recognized Engineering Technologist Certification in relevant fields.
  • 2 to 4 years of field experience in heavy industry.
  • Courses in data visualization tools like Tableau and Power BI.
  • Proven skills in instrumentation, PLCs, robotics, hydraulics, or HVAC.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Configuration and programming skills in data visualization.
  • SQL database skills.
  • Experience with Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
